Gazebo Building Plans - Getting It Right The First Time

There are many different outlooks on how to build the ‘perfect’ gazebo on the internet and in print publications, such as home and garden magazines. Every website and every e-zine promises the best results and the most flawless gazebo. However, generic gazebo building plans are usually just the first step in the overall process and are used by most people as a guide to their own plans rather then a step by step guide to building a generic gazebo. Internet gazebo building plans are great for receiving general ideas and visuals about what you want in your structure but many contractors warn against following them word for word. Any plan that doesn’t take into consideration your soil situation, design, weather and footing is not going to be fool proof because every person comes from a different location and the way they build their gazebo should be just a tad different.

If you have already gotten plans from another location, maybe free plans off the internet or even paid plans from a contractor or again the internet, you may want to spend a little extra money and just have someone tangibly walk on your property to determine if the plan is right for your land. By having contractors come to your home and at least look around your backyard you will be able to continue building your gazebo without the worry that your plans may be flawed or even filled with major errors. You do not have to pay the contractor to draw up completely new designs but just have them look over your current plans. If everything is fine then at least you have taken the most precaution, if the plans or the ground is flawed then you have saved yourself from major aggravation and a loss of money down the road to make any necessary changes. It’s always better to do something right in the first place then to go back and fix something that was done wrong.

Most gazebo building plans go wrong for one of the following reasons:

Soil: Depending on where you live you will have certain soil that will not allow for certain structures. If you live in cold weather territory then you will have the extra consideration of frost heaves and how to build a gazebo to last through the wintertime.

Reinforcement: Many generic gazebo plans do not take into consideration enough about reinforcement. Some people follow step by step a gazebo plan and are happy with their structure until one day a strong wind blows the entire thing down. Post reinforcement is a big consideration to make when you are looking at gazebo plans.

There are many good gazebo plans out there but just to be safe you should always consult with a contractor before building.
